Jersey Trees for Life Nursery
In 2022 Jersey Trees for Life gained permission from the government to use an outside growing area at Howard Davis Farm in Trinity, conveniently close to our office. Since then we’ve used it for seasonal storage, with thousands of whips ‘heeled in’ there at the season’s outset (this term comes from using a heel to tread soil after planting).
As well as the outdoor nursery, there’s a ‘crèche’ area where saplings at various stages of growth are housed and an ‘orphanage’ that provides a place for people to donate unwanted trees. There’s also a ‘tree hospital’ for damaged but salvageable trees.
Looking ahead, our long-term aim is to create a thriving nursery that’s home to trees at all stages of early development, from seeds to specimens over two metres tall. We’re also looking to get propagation benches and an auto-irrigation system for the greenhouses, pending permission from the government.
When our nursery vision becomes a reality, the next step will be to become a supplier locally, initially to our members but potentially island-wide and even to Guernsey and the UK.
Visit Jersey Trees for Life Nursery
From St Helier and the south, head up Trinity Hill until about 200m beyond RJA&HS, take the left turn into Howard Davis Farm and follow the short drive around to the left.
From the north, head towards Trinity Church and take the nearby turning (50 metres) onto Trinity Hill. From the west (La Rue Asplet) it’s a right turn just before the church and from the east (Rue es Picots) it’s a left turn just after. Continue for 40-50 metres before taking the right turn into Howard Davis Farm.

What we've achieved together
Since our foundation as Men of the Trees in 1937, we’ve evolved to become an important part of the community, planting and protecting thousands of trees while helping people to understand and appreciate their importance to our existence.
