Jersey’s only tree charity – and we’ve been at it since 1937

Jersey Trees for Life has been proudly planting and protecting trees and hedgerows since our establishment as a branch of Men of the Trees in 1937. Since then we’ve planted vast amounts while working to drive an environmental renaissance that will provide a greener, healthier environment for future generations.

Our mission, vision, values & strategy

Jersey Trees for Life’s mission is to grow a greener, healthier future for our community.

Our vision is an island where healthy woodlands, accessible green spaces and connected hedgerows are valued and supported by a community that cares for trees.

When it comes to how we work, everyone is committed to our five basic values:

  1. Teamwork – We work as a united team towards our shared objectives
  2. Respect – We always conduct ourselves with respect
  3. Environment – We’re focused on improving our natural environment
  4. Education – We educate the community about the importance of trees
  5. Sustainability – We’re committed to helping create a sustainable future

Supported by financial stability and strong governance, our strategy revolves around planting, protecting, caring and educating:

Planting

  • Increase the number of trees in Jersey
  • Plant the right trees in the right places
  • Improve the biodiversity of areas we manage

Protecting

  • Represent trees against threats from development
  • Protect trees from invasive species, pests and diseases
  • Lobby for effective legislation to protect Jersey’s trees

Caring

  • Raise standards of tree care and maintenance
  • Create habitats where trees thrive
  • Provide a refuge for critically endangered trees

Educating

  • Raise community awareness of the environmental and social value of trees
  • Communicate the importance of trees in our ecosystem
  • Promote the physical and mental health benefits of trees
