Vol @ Val 2026

Join Jersey Trees for Life for tree care and maintenance at Val de la Mare.

October 2, 2026
Val de la Mare

Jersey Trees for Life hosts open volunteering sessions at Val de la Mare Arboretum on the first Friday of every month from April to November. We also host similar ad hoc sessions at shorter notice, so keep an eye out.

If you're interested in tree care, or simply fancy getting out into the fresh air for a few hours of gentle morning exercise, we'd love you to join us.

You can sign up here if you're interested in attending one or more of the sessions taking place throughout 2026.

Unless otherwise stated, we meet at 9:30am in the main car park at the top end of the arboretum (across the main road from aMaizin Adventure Park):

If you have any problems finding us on the day, please call Alex on 07797 774676.

The tree care activities that you'll undertake will depend on ongoing priorities but will generally entail the likes of dead hedging, mulching, path clearing and removing competing or invasive species, as well as watering when it's been dry.

For those joining us, please bear in mind the following:

  • You must complete a volunteer working agreement before attending (link also in confirmation email)
  • Check the forecast and bring waterproof clothing or sunscreen as necessary
  • Wear long trousers/sleeves and bring gloves suitable for touching brambles
  • You may get wet feet so wear waterproof boots or shoes (not trainers or sandals)
  • You may get tired so don’t push yourself too hard; take it at your own pace
  • Bring snacks and drinks to maintain energy levels
  • We provide equipment
  • Ask our team lots of questions and have fun!

All sessions are held on the first working Friday of the month from 9.30am to 12.30pm at Val de la Mare Arboretum. 2026 dates are as follow:

10 April, 8 May, 5 June, 3 July, 7 August, 11 September, 2 October, 6 November.

Jersey Trees for Life regularly hosts extra open volunteering, especially during planting season (December to March), so keep an eye out.

You can also register as a volunteer on our website. Doing so means you'll receive our monthly update with details of upcoming volunteering opportunities for the following month.

We look forward to seeing you in 2026.
